During my final year project, I collaborated with synth-pop band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (as a real-world client). Their existing website was redesigned to incorporate a responsive design layout through a low to mid-fidelity design process which included wireframe prototypes, Photoshop mock-ups and an interactive prototype (using InVision). A high-fidelity prototype was produced for the client (using HTML5, CSS and JQuery). The prototype received very positive feedback from record company representatives (100% Records) and Andy McCluskey (band member). The client has approved for the design to be implemented as part of the announcement of their new album “The Punishment of Luxury”. It was unveiled on Monday 15th May 2017.

The initial engagement with the band to discuss involvement in this project began in September 2016 with an email to lead singer Andy McCluskey, outlining the specification for this project. This request and specification was passed on to Ed MacDonald from 100% Records, the band’s current record label. After a series of discussions over the phone, a proposal was put forward to integrate my project development with the band’s upcoming album release “The Punishment of Luxury”, due for release after the project’s deadline (Post-April 2017). For each album campaign, the website is “re-skinned” to integrate the current album colour scheme; their proposal was to integrate a responsive layout to the band’s existing website framework. This was an exciting opportunity, as this would meet my aim for this project of integrating an “external client” to simulate a real–world project. It also brought in the additional scenario of a real ongoing project with a published product requirement after the conclusion of this project.
